  • Die son skyn helder oor die Kaapsewynlandgoed.

The sun shines brightly over the Cape wine estate.

Pieter and Annelize sit under a large oak tree.

  • Hulle geniet die koel skadu.

    They enjoy the cool shade.

  • Die wingerde strek so ver as wat die oog kan sien.

The vineyards stretch as far as the eye can see.

“I’m so glad we came here today,” Annelize says with a smile.

  • Pieter glimlag terug.

    Pieter smiles back.

“Me too. It’s beautiful here. The wine is delicious, and the view is incredible.”

Around them, they hear the sounds of other family groups laughing, chatting, and enjoying themselves.

A few children run and play on the green grass.

  • “Proe hierdie wyn, Pieter,” sê Annelize en gee hom 'n glas.

“Try this wine, Pieter,” Annelize says, handing him a glass.

  • “Dit is vanjaar se spesiale oes. Ek dink jy sal dit geniet.”

“It’s this year’s special harvest. I think you’ll enjoy it.”

Pieter takes the glass and takes a sip.

  • Hy knik goedkeurend.

    He nods approvingly.

  • “Jy is reg. Dit is baie lekker. Die bessie-en-jasmyn-geure is sterk. Ek hou daarvan.”

“You’re right. It’s very nice. The berry and jasmine flavors are strong. I like it.”

They sit for a while in silence, enjoying the surroundings.

The birds sing in the trees, and a gentle breeze blows through the leaves.

“Let’s take a walk through the vineyards,” Annelize suggests.

Pieter agrees, and they stand up, fold their blanket, and start walking.

The rows of vineyards have large, juicy bunches of grapes hanging from the branches.

  • “Ek het altyd gewonder hoe 'n wynmakery werk,” sê Annelize.

“I’ve always wondered how a winery works,” Annelize says.

“As I understand it, the grapes are carefully picked first,” Pieter responds.

“Then they are pressed to get the juice.

After that, the juice is fermented until it becomes wine.”

They reach a large red barn with an open door.

Inside are heaps of wooden barrels, stacked and ready to house the wine.

A worker greets them kindly and invites them in to have a look around.

“It’s amazing how much work it takes to make one bottle of wine,” Annelize says.

  • “Ja, dis werklik indrukwekkend,” voeg Pieter by.

“Yes, it’s truly impressive,” Pieter adds.

“It makes me appreciate the wine even more.”

  • Hulle stap terug na hul piekniekplek.

They walk back to their picnic spot.

The day begins to come to an end, and the sun sets behind the hills.

“I really enjoyed today,” Annelize says.

“It was good to spend time together and appreciate nature.”

  • Pieter knik instemmend.

    Pieter nods in agreement.

  • “Ja, dit was 'n wonderlike dag.

“Yes, it was a wonderful day.

  • Ek dink ons moet dit weer doen.”

I think we should do this again.”

They pack up their things and start walking back to the parking lot.

As they walk, they take one last look at the beautiful Cape wine estate.

“Until next time,” Annelize says softly, with a feeling of fulfillment.

With a sense of joy and peace, Pieter and Annelize depart, their hearts full of the lovely memories they have made.
