  • Die Garden Route was pragtig in April.

The Garden Route was beautiful in April.

The trees' leaves were orange and red, and the air was cool and fresh.

  • Anika stap stadig agter haar familie aan.

Anika walked slowly behind her family.

They were on an Easter weekend camping trip, something her mom and dad always enjoyed.

  • Anika, egter, het soos 'n buitestaander gevoel.

Anika, however, felt like an outsider.

Her dad, Johan, was walking far ahead of her, and Elsa cheerfully walked with him, her eyes wide with curiosity about the nature around her.

  • “Kom, Anika!

    "Come, Anika!

  • Kom kyk na hierdie ongelooflike voël!

Come look at this amazing bird!"

  • ” roep Elsa uit.

    Elsa exclaimed.

Anika smiled weakly but didn't feel the energy to share her sister's excitement.

  • Die tent was vinnig opgeslaan in 'n oop gedeelte omring deur hoë bome.

The tent was quickly set up in an open area surrounded by tall trees.

It was Elsa who kept helping Dad prepare for the campfire.

  • Anika sit eenkant, haar gedagtes dwaal.

Anika sat to the side, her thoughts wandering.

She just wanted to get away, just for a little while.

"Anika, your turn to hide the eggs!"

Johan said with a big smile, his eyes full of hope.

  • Haar gedagtes was al by die bergpad.

Her thoughts were already on the mountain path.

  • “Ek's reg, ek wil net 'n rukkie stap,” sê sy toe.

"I'm fine, I just want to take a walk for a while," she said then.

After a few minutes of walking, Anika took a deep breath.

The footpath was quiet, the leaves crackled under her feet.

But before long, she realized she had gotten herself lost.

The trees all started to look the same, and stress slowly crept over her.

She couldn't remember which way the camp was.

Panicking, she tried to remember what her dad always said about camping.

  • “Bly in een plek as jy verdwaal,” het hy altyd gesê.

"Stay in one place if you get lost," he always said.

She sat down on a large rock and tried to calm down.

Hours later, just as the sun began to set, she heard sounds in the distance.

  • Dit was haar pa.

    It was her dad.

  • “Anika!

    "Anika!"

  • ” het hy geroep.

    he called.

  • Saam met hom, Elsa.

    Together with him, Elsa.

They came running when they saw her.

  • “Ek was bekommerd,” sê Johan en omhels haar styf.

"I was worried," Johan said, hugging her tightly.

  • “Ek is jammer, ek wou net ruimte hê,” het Anika saggies gesê.

"I'm sorry, I just wanted space," Anika said softly.

She felt the warmth of the moment, realizing how precious they were.

  • Elsa trek haar hand.

    Elsa pulled her hand.

"Come, we still have a few eggs left to find!"

  • ” Haar oorvloedige entoesiasme was aansteeklik.

    Her abundant enthusiasm was infectious.

    Anika couldn't help but smile.

That night around the campfire, Anika enjoyed the company of her mom and dad.

She began to understand that they were not as far from her as she had thought.

They were there, loving her, ready to catch her if she stumbled.

The Garden Route now held a new meaning for her.

It wasn't just the beauty of nature.

It was the place where she reaffirmed her bonds with her family.

And in the cool April night, with the campfires in her eyes, she found a new kind of peace.
