Autumn's Promise: A Stormy Barcelona Adoption Tale
Barcelona was filled with dark clouds, and a cold wind swept through the streets.
The orphanage was in the very heart of the city, an old stone building with dimly lit hallways and a cozy living room where couples came with the hope of finding a child.
A dins, Jordi mirava per la finestra.
Inside, Jordi looked out the window.
The raindrops slipped down the glass like his hopes, about to disappear.
At only twelve years old, he was the oldest of the children in the orphanage, and he feared being alone forever.
That morning, a couple, Marta and Carles, had arrived with the intention of adopting.
But now, with the threatening storm, they had doubts whether it was wise to take a child on their long journey home.
Their voices echoed in the hallway as they discussed the situation.
Jordi respirà profundament i decidí actuar.
Jordi took a deep breath and decided to act.
In his hands, he clutched a small piece of paper.
He left the room and walked to the main living room where Marta and Carles were.
His heart was beating fast, but he knew he had to speak.
"Excuse me," he said in a small voice.
"Puc parlar amb vosaltres un moment?
"Can I talk to you for a moment?"
"Marta i Carles li van fer un gest amical, mirant-lo amb curiositat.
Marta and Carles gave him a friendly nod, looking at him with curiosity.
"I like autumn," Jordi began, looking at the two adults.
"És una estació de canvis.
"It's a season of changes.
The leaves fall, but then they grow back."
"Carles somrigué i li preguntà: "I això què significa per a tu?
Carles smiled and asked him, "And what does that mean to you?"
Jordi looked at the ground, gathering the words within himself.
"Crec.
"I think...
crec que les famílies també poden canviar.
I think families can change too.
Jo.
I...
jo voldria canvi, una nova oportunitat.
I want change, a new opportunity.
Vull una família.
I want a family."
The honesty in his eyes touched Marta's heart.
She knew this was the moment of truth.
The wind outside blew fiercely, but inside the living room, a new light shone.
"Jordi", va dir Carles, "no t'has de preocupar.
"Jordi," Carles said, "you don't need to worry.
Estem aquí per conèixer-te, i la pluja no canviarà això.
We're here to get to know you, and the rain won't change that."
Marta took Jordi's hand, feeling the warmth and courage in that gesture.
"We would love for you to be part of our family."
The sound of thunder echoed outside, marking the moment when Jordi's uncertainty transformed into hope and joy.
He breathed a sigh of relief, his heart full of gratitude.
While the storm continued, Marta and Carles decided to begin their journey with Jordi, knowing that the love binding their new lives was stronger than any storm.
That autumn day, with the changing colors of Barcelona around him, Jordi learned that opening up was the key to finding what he so longed for: a home.
