Heartbeats on Charles Bridge: A Freelancer's Wake-Up Call
Václav kráčel po Karlově mostě.
Václav walked across Charles Bridge.
Bylo léto, slunce zářilo a turisté si fotili sochy.
It was summer, the sun was shining, and tourists were taking pictures of the statues.
V hlavě měl důležitou schůzku.
He had an important meeting on his mind.
Dnes měl potkat nového klienta.
Today he was to meet a new client.
Díky tomu kontraktu by byl finančně v pohodě.
Thanks to that contract, he would be financially secure.
Ale cítil se jinak.
But he felt different.
Něco ho tlačilo v hrudi.
Something pressed in his chest.
Nepřikládal tomu velkou váhu.
He didn't pay much attention to it.
Měl přece vydělat peníze.
After all, he was going to make money.
„Musím to zvládnout,“ říkal si v duchu.
"I have to manage this," he told himself.
He was forty-five years old, and freelancing was his life.
Stres z práce ho sice tížil, ale nechtěl si to přiznat.
The stress from work was weighing on him, but he didn't want to admit it.
Musel být silný.
He had to be strong.
Potřeboval ten kontrakt.
He needed that contract.
Pomalu se blížil ke středu mostu.
Slowly, he approached the middle of the bridge.
Najednou ucítil prudkou bolest v hrudi.
Suddenly, he felt a sharp pain in his chest.
Zastavil se a chytil se za prsa.
He stopped and clutched his chest.
Bolelo to, jako by mu někdo vrazil nůž do srdce.
It felt like someone had stabbed a knife into his heart.
Potřeboval si sednout, ale nechtěl ztratit svého klienta.
He needed to sit down but didn't want to lose his client.
Šel dál, ale bolest zesílila.
He kept walking, but the pain intensified.
S každým krokem se mu zatmělo před očima.
With each step, his vision darkened.
Nemohl dýchat.
He couldn't breathe.
Lidé kolem si ho začali všímat.
People around started to notice him.
Nevěděl, zda má volat o pomoc nebo pokračovat.
He didn't know whether to call for help or continue.
Nechtěl vypadat slabě.
He didn't want to appear weak.
„Ještě pár kroků,“ šeptal si.
"Just a few more steps," he whispered to himself.
Pak ho viděl.
Then he saw him.
Klient stál na boku mostu a čekal.
The client was standing to the side of the bridge, waiting.
Václav tried to smile, but his body betrayed him.
Ještě jeden krok a ztratil vědomí.
Just one more step, and he lost consciousness.
Zhroutil se přímo na tvrdé kostky mostu.
He collapsed right onto the hard cobblestones of the bridge.
Klient to uviděl a okamžitě zavolal sanitku.
The client saw it and immediately called an ambulance.
Lidé kolem se seběhli a snažili se Václava probudit.
People gathered around and tried to revive Václav.
Byl v bezvědomí, ale dýchal.
He was unconscious but breathing.
Během několika minut na místo přijela záchranka.
Within minutes, the ambulance arrived.
Přeložili Václava na nosítka a odvezli ho do nemocnice.
They put Václav on a stretcher and took him to the hospital.
He woke up in the hospital, where doctors told him he had had a heart attack.
Byl stále unavený, ale žil.
He was still tired, but he was alive.
Potřeboval dlouhou rekonvalescenci.
He needed a long recovery.
Klient ho později navštívil a přinesl mu květiny.
The client later visited him and brought flowers.
He told Václav that health is more important than work.
Václav se rozhodl změnit svůj život.
Václav decided to change his life.
„Musím se o sebe starat,“ řekl si.
"I need to take care of myself," he said to himself.
Uvědomil si, že nemá cenu vydělávat peníze, pokud nemá zdraví.
He realized there was no point in making money if he didn't have his health.
Začal lépe spát, jíst zdravěji a méně pracovat.
He started sleeping better, eating healthier, and working less.
Naučil se odpočívat.
He learned to rest.
Over time, he became strong again, but he never forgot that day on Charles Bridge.
From Václav's story, it’s clear that work is important, but health is more important.
He learned to find a balance between work and rest.
A to je něco, co bychom se měli všichni naučit.
And that is something we should all learn.
