Unveiling 'Hygge': A Cozy Journey in Copenhagen
I hjertet af det summende København eksisterer der en lille tryg krog.
In the heart of bustling Copenhagen, there exists a small cozy nook.
Her bor Lars.
Here lives Lars.
Han elsker sin by.
He loves his city.
Brostenene.
The cobblestones.
Kanalerne.
The canals.
Men mest af alt, han elsker 'hygge'.
But most of all, he loves 'hygge'.
I dag skal han forklare 'hygge' til sine venner.
Today he will explain 'hygge' to his friends.
Vennerne er ikke fra Danmark.
The friends are not from Denmark.
De er fra England, USA og Japan.
They are from England, USA, and Japan.
De kender ikke til 'hygge'.
They are not familiar with 'hygge'.
Lars tænker, det er mærkeligt.
Lars thinks it's strange.
Han starter enkelt.
He starts simply. "
" 'Hygge' er en stemning," siger Lars.
'Hygge' is a feeling," says Lars.
"Det er venner, mad og varme.
"It's friends, food, and warmth."
" Vennerne nikker, men forstår det ikke rigtigt.
The friends nod but don't quite understand.
"Tænk over en kold, mørk aften," starter Lars igen.
"Imagine a cold, dark evening," Lars begins again.
"Du er hjemme.
"You're at home.
Du har varme sokker på.
You have warm socks on.
Du drikker kakao.
You're drinking hot cocoa.
Og du griner med venner.
And you're laughing with friends."
" Vennerne smiler, men ryster på hovedet.
The friends smile but shake their heads.
Fortsætter med, " Vi har det samme, men det er ikke 'hygge'.
Continuing, "We have the same, but it's not 'hygge'."
"Lars vil vise dem.
Lars wants to show them.
Han inviterer dem hjem.
He invites them home.
Han tænder stearinlys.
He lights candles.
Han laver varm kakao.
He makes hot cocoa.
Han tager deres frakker.
He takes their coats.
De snakker.
They chat.
De griner.
They laugh.
De spiser kager.
They eat cakes.
Lars spørger, "Føler I det?
Lars asks, "Do you feel it?"
" Vennerne ser rundt.
The friends look around.
Så ser de på hinanden.
Then they look at each other.
De smiler og nikker.
They smile and nod.
"Ja, Lars," siger de, "Nu tror vi, at vi forstår 'hygge'.
"Yes, Lars," they say, "Now we believe we understand 'hygge'."
"Lars er glad.
Lars is happy.
Det er svært at forklare 'hygge'.
It's hard to explain 'hygge'.
Men det er lettere at føle 'hygge'.
But it's easier to feel 'hygge'.
Og fungerer bedst med ens venner omkring sig.
And it works best with friends around.
København er ikke kun brosten og kanaler.
Copenhagen is not just cobblestones and canals.
Det er også 'hygge'.
It's also 'hygge'.
Lars siger farvel til sine venner.
Lars bids farewell to his friends.
Vennerne går hjem.
The friends go home.
De tager 'hygge' med dem.
They take 'hygge' with them.
Lars sidderstille sejrende.
Lars sits quietly triumphant.
"Det er 'hygge'," hvisker han til København.
"It's 'hygge'," he whispers to Copenhagen.
"Det er 'hygge'.
"It's 'hygge'."
