  • Solen skinnede højt på himlen over Forsyth Park, en varm 4. juli i Savannah.

The sun shone high in the sky over Forsyth Park on a warm July 4th in Savannah.

The park was filled with people celebrating freedom with picnics, barbecues, and the joyous laughter of children.

Amidst all this liveliness, Søren and Astrid sat on a red blanket under a large oak tree.

Søren had recently settled in Savannah because of work and hoped to impress Astrid on this summer day.

Astrid was a local and knew every corner of the park.

  • Hun nød at vise Søren stederne, der havde betydning for hende.

She enjoyed showing Søren the places that were meaningful to her.

"Søren, have you ever seen anything so beautiful?" Astrid asked while pointing at the old fountain that reflected the sun's rays.

"No, it's truly amazing," Søren replied with a smile.

  • Men under overfladen var han nervøs.

But below the surface, he was nervous.

He had a secret he hadn't shared with Astrid yet—a serious allergy.

They took out the food that Søren had prepared.

  • Sandwicher, frugt og kage.

    Sandwiches, fruit, and cake.

  • Alt virkede perfekt.

    Everything seemed perfect.

But when Søren took a big bite of the sandwich, he immediately knew something was wrong.

His throat began to feel tight, and his face turned red.

"Astrid, I... I think I'm allergic," Søren stammered, trying to conceal his fear.

  • Astrid kunne straks se, at noget var meget galt.

Astrid could immediately see that something was very wrong.

  • "Åh nej, Søren! Jeg vidste ikke, du havde allergier. Hvad skal vi gøre?" Astrids egen frygt begyndte at tage over.

"Oh no, Søren! I didn't know you had allergies. What should we do?" Astrid's own fear began to take over.

  • Minderne om tidligere medicinske nødsituationer vældede op i hende, og hendes hænder rystede.

Memories of previous medical emergencies surged in her, and her hands trembled.

  • Søren forsøgte at berolige hende.

    Søren tried to calm her.

"It's okay, Astrid. I have medicine in my bag," he whispered as his breathing became more labored.

Astrid quickly crouched down and found Søren's bag.

She frantically rummaged through it until she found the small syringe with the allergy medication.

She took a deep breath and thought, "I have to handle this."

She sat by Søren and injected the medicine into his thigh.

  • "Søren! Sig noget, er du okay?" råbte hun, mens tårerne begyndte at fylde hendes øjne.

"Søren! Say something, are you okay?" she cried as tears began to fill her eyes.

  • Søren begyndte langsomt at trække vejret lettere, men han var stadig svag.

Søren slowly began to breathe easier, but he was still weak.

"We need to call an ambulance," Astrid said decisively.

She stood up and called out to the nearest people.

  • "Hjælp! Vi har brug for en ambulance!"

    "Help! We need an ambulance!"

  • Folkene omkring dem kom hurtigt til undsætning.

The people around them quickly came to their aid.

A man called 911, and a woman helped keep Søren calm.

Astrid sat by his side, holding his hand and trying to calm both herself and him.

The ambulance arrived quickly, and the paramedics took care of Søren.

Astrid accompanied him to the hospital, where the doctors promptly stabilized him.

After a few hours, a doctor came out and smiled reassuringly at Astrid.

  • "Han kommer til at klare sig fint.

    "He's going to be fine.

  • Det var godt, du handlede så hurtigt."

It was good you acted so quickly."

Astrid breathed a sigh of relief and went in to see Søren.

  • Han lå der, træt men smilende.

He lay there, tired but smiling.

  • "Du reddede mig, Astrid.

    "You saved me, Astrid.

I don't know how to thank you."

Astrid sat by his side and took his hand.

  • "Du behøver ikke takke mig.

"You don't need to thank me.

  • Jeg er glad for, at du er okay.

    I'm just glad you're okay.

And maybe... there's more between us than just friendship."

  • Søren smilte bredt og nikkede.

    Søren smiled broadly and nodded.

  • De havde begge lært noget vigtigt denne dag.

They both had learned something important that day.

Honesty and courage could overcome much, even the fear of the unknown.
