The Hidden Book: A Tale of Trust in Tallinn High
Tallinna Keskkooli raamatukogu oli vaikne koht, kus õpilased tihti õppisid.
The library at Tallinn High School was a quiet place where students often studied.
Suvepäike paistis akendest sisse, valgustades tolmuosakesi, mis hõljusid õhus.
The summer sun shone through the windows, illuminating the dust particles floating in the air.
Kitsad puidust riiulid olid täidetud raamatutega. Vaikselt liikus siin Juhan, noor ja uudishimulik õpilane.
Narrow wooden shelves were filled with books, and Juhan, a young and curious student, moved there quietly.
Juhan oli alati raamatute vastu huvi tundnud.
Juhan had always been interested in books.
He knew that there was one book that was very important for the history exam.
It was rare and full of detailed information that could not be found elsewhere.
Kuid raamat oli kadunud.
But the book had disappeared.
Juhan knew why – he had secretly taken it home.
He feared that someone else would get it before him.
Now he had to return it without anyone finding out.
Samal ajal oli Liisa, raamatukoguhoidja assistent, mures.
Meanwhile, Liisa, the library assistant, was worried.
Ta oli alati täpne ja tähelepanelik.
She was always precise and attentive.
She knew the location of every book, and the missing book was very important to her.
She wanted to prove that she was worthy of becoming a full-time librarian.
She decided to stay at school late to catch the thief.
Kuna õhtu lähenes, hiilis Juhan raamatukogusse.
As evening approached, Juhan sneaked into the library.
He knew that Liisa might be there, but he hoped she wouldn't be.
Ta astus vaikseid samme, raamat kindlalt käes.
He took quiet steps, the book firmly in his hand.
He had just reached the shelf to put the book back when he heard footsteps.
Liisa oli otsustanud valvata vaikselt pimedas nurgas.
Liisa had decided to keep watch quietly in a dark corner.
She had noticed Juhan's movements in the last few days.
Ta teadis, et midagi oli valesti.
She knew something was wrong.
Ja nüüd nägi ta teda, raamat käes.
And now she saw him, book in hand.
"Juhan," ütles ta pehme, kuid kindla häälega.
"Juhan," she said in a soft but firm voice.
Juhan jäi liikumatult seisma.
Juhan stood motionless.
Tal polnud kuhugi põgeneda.
He had nowhere to run.
"Ma saan seletada," alustas ta.
"I can explain," he began.
"Ma võtsin raamatu, sest mul oli tõesti vaja.
"I took the book because I really needed it.
I knew it was wrong, but I was afraid of failing the exam."
Liisa vaatas teda tõsiselt.
Liisa looked at him seriously.
"Sa peaksid raamatukogureegleid austama.
"You should respect the library rules.
Raamatud on kõigi jaoks.
Books are for everyone.
Aga ma mõistan.
But I understand.
I won't talk about this if you promise to ask for permission next time."
Juhan noogutas nõusolekuks.
Juhan nodded in agreement.
"Aitäh, Liisa.
"Thank you, Liisa.
Ma õpin sellest."
I will learn from this."
Nad mõlemad naeratasid kergendunult.
Both of them smiled with relief.
Juhan asetas raamatu riiulisse ja läks koju õppima.
Juhan placed the book back on the shelf and went home to study.
Liisa tundis ennast edukalt.
Liisa felt successful.
She knew she had proven her skills, and the prospect of becoming a full-time librarian now seemed real.
Sellest päevast alates läks Juhan sageli raamatukokku, kuid alati õigete reeglite järgi.
From that day on, Juhan often went to the library, but always followed the right rules.
Liisa attended to her work with even greater care and was soon promoted.
Raamatukogu jäi rahulikuks ja korda peeti ranged, kuid õiglaselt.
The library remained peaceful, and order was maintained strictly but fairly.
And so, the Tallinn High School library rose in the sunlight – a place where learning and honesty prevailed.
