茶屋の庭には雪がうっすらと積もり、紙の提灯がその静けさをやさしく照らしていた。

Snow lay lightly on the garden of the chaya, and paper lanterns gently illuminated the tranquility.

京都の小さな茶屋。

It was a small chaya in Kyoto.

その窓からは、遠くに清水寺が見える。

From its window, one could see Kiyomizu-dera in the distance.

冬の冷たい風が外を吹き抜けるが、茶屋の中は温かく、抹茶の香りが漂っていた。

Though the cold winter wind blew outside, inside the chaya was warm, and the fragrance of matcha lingered in the air.

広志は茶屋の戸を開け、少し冷えた空気が入り込んだ。

Hiroshi opened the chaya door, letting in a bit of the chilled air.

彼は思った。「大学の勉強が忙しい。でも、今日は特別な日だ。」

He thought to himself, "University studies are keeping me busy. But today is a special day."

友達の結城と約束した新年のお祝いの日だった。

It was the day he promised to celebrate the New Year with his friend Yuki.

彼女とは幼い頃からの友人だった。今、二人は久しぶりに会う。

She had been a friend since childhood, and now they were meeting again after a long time.

結城は広志を見て微笑む。「久しぶり、広志。元気だった？」

Yuki smiled upon seeing Hiroshi. "It's been a while, Hiroshi. How have you been?"

彼女の目には期待と少しの不安が見える。

「元気だよ。」広志は緊張を感じながら答えた。「大学で忙しくて、なかなか会えなかったね。」

"I'm doing well," Hiroshi answered, feeling a bit nervous. "I've been busy with university, so it was hard to find time to meet up."

彼らは席に着く。茶器が揃えられ、結城が手際よく準備を始める。

They took their seats. The tea utensils were ready, and Yuki began preparing the tea with skill.

その日、茶道を通じて伝統を感じられるよう、結城が誘ってくれたのだ。

She had invited him to experience the tradition through the tea ceremony that day.

「広志、今日は特別な日だよね。あなたのこと、少し心配してた。」結城は言葉を選びながら、静かに言った。

"Hiroshi, today truly is a special day. I was a bit worried about you," Yuki said softly, choosing her words carefully.

広志は一瞬躊躇したが、自分の心の中の不安を打ち明けた。「うん、正直なところ、少し文化や家族から遠ざかった感じがしてた。」

Hiroshi hesitated for a moment but then confessed his worries. "Yeah, honestly, I felt a bit distanced from the culture and family."

結城は黙って広志の言葉を聞き取った。そして、彼女はゆっくりと茶をたて始めた。

Yuki silently absorbed Hiroshi's words. Then she slowly began to prepare the tea.

「大事なのは、今ここで私たちが一緒にいることだと思う。」

"I think what's important is that we're here together now."

茶器から湯気が立つ。

Steam rose from the tea utensils.

広志はその作法を思い出しながら、一杯の茶を味わった。

As Hiroshi recalled the tea ceremony etiquette, he savored a cup of tea.

それは、小さなことだったが、大きな懐かしさと温かさを感じられた瞬間だった。

It was a small gesture, but it was a moment where he felt a deep sense of nostalgia and warmth.

「ありがとう、結城。こうして一緒にいると、やっぱり安心する。」広志はほっと息をついた。

"Thank you, Yuki. Being with you like this really puts my mind at ease," Hiroshi sighed with relief.

そして、彼らはそれぞれの贈り物を用意していた。

They each had prepared gifts for one another.

広志は、桜の形をした小さなガラス細工を結城に渡した。

Hiroshi handed Yuki a small glass ornament shaped like a cherry blossom.

結城は笑って、手作りの絹のスカーフを差し出した。「これで、新しい年も一緒に過ごせるよね。」
