冷たい冬の日、京都の南禅寺は色とりどりの装飾で彩られていた。

On a cold winter day, Kyoto's Nanzen-ji was adorned with colorful decorations.

今日は節分の祭り。

Today was the Setsubun festival.

空気には太鼓の音と、豆まきの声、そして笑い声が響いていた。

The air resonated with the sounds of drums, the calls of bean throwing, and laughter.

ユリは友達のミカと一緒に寺に来ていた。

Yuri had come to the temple with her friend Mika.

ユリは深呼吸をして、少しだけ前向きに歩き出した。

その時、カイトと出会った。

カイトは祭りのガイドで、歴史と文化に情熱を持っていた。

Kaito was a festival guide passionate about history and culture.

「こんにちは！」カイトは明るく声をかけた。

"Hello!" Kaito greeted cheerfully.

「日本の文化に興味がありますか？」

"Are you interested in Japanese culture?"

ユリはためらいながらもうなずいた。

「はい。でも、少し複雑だと思います。」

"Yes, but I think it's a bit complicated."

カイトは親切に説明を始めた。

「節分は、春を迎える前に悪霊を追い出す行事です。

"Setsubun is an event to drive out evil spirits before welcoming spring.

この豆まきもその一環で…。」

The bean throwing is part of that..."

「どうして豆を使うのですか？」ユリは興味を持って聞いた。

"Why do you use beans?" Yuri asked with interest.

「昔、鬼が家に入らないように豆を投げたそうです。

"They say that in the past, beans were thrown to keep demons from entering homes.

鬼は豆に当たると嫌がるんですよ。」カイトは笑いながら言った。

Demons apparently dislike getting hit by beans," Kaito said with a laugh.

ユリはそれを聞いて、心が少し軽くなった。

Hearing this, Yuri felt her heart lighten a bit.

祭りの意味が理解できると、世界が明るく見える気がした。

「ありがとう、カイトさん。

二人は寺の中を歩き、いろいろな伝統について話した。
