  • Viens silts pavasara rīts Annai radās ideja.

On a warm spring morning, Anna had an idea.

  • Viņa gribēja izcept savas vecmāmiņas slaveno Latvijas kūku.

She wanted to bake her grandmother's famous Latvian cake.

  • Viņa devās uz Rīgas Centrāltirgu pēc svaigām olām, miltiem un riekstiem - visiem nepieciešamajiem sastāvdaļām.

She went to Riga Central Market to get fresh eggs, flour, and nuts - all the necessary ingredients.

  • Tirgū Anna satika savu labo draugu Eduardu, kurš, pamanījis Annas lielo pirkumu maisiņu, vaicāja: "Ko gatavo šodien, Anna?"

At the market, Anna met her good friend Eduards, who, noticing Anna's large shopping bag, asked, "What are you cooking today, Anna?"

  • "Vecmāmiņas slaveno kūku," ar smaidu atbildēja Anna. "Gribi ciemot uz degustāciju vēlāk?"

"Grandma's famous cake," Anna replied with a smile. "Do you want to come for a tasting later?"

  • Tomēr, mājās gatavojot kūku, Anna kļuva nedaudz neuzmanīga.

However, while baking the cake at home, Anna became a bit careless.

  • Viņa dziedāja un dejoja savā virtuvē, kamēr, nejauši, vietā cukuram iebēra sāli.

She sang and danced in her kitchen, and accidentally added salt instead of sugar.

  • Turklāt, vietā riekstiem, no maisiņa izkrita zaļie zirnīši.

Furthermore, instead of nuts, green peas fell out of the bag.

  • Anna tos nemaz nepamanīja un turpināja maisīt.

Anna didn't even notice and continued to mix.

  • Izcepjot kūku, virtuvē izplatījās dīvaina smarža.

When the cake was baked, a strange smell filled the kitchen.

  • Anna sajuta, ka kaut kas nav kārtībā.

Anna felt that something was not right.

  • Kūka bija putaina un brūna, bet tajā bija redzami dīvaini zaļi punktiņi.

The cake was fluffy and brown, but it had strange green spots.

  • Pēcpusdienā Eduards ieradās pie Annas.

In the afternoon, Eduards arrived at Anna's place.

  • Viņš bija satraukts par vecmāmiņas slavenās kūkas garšu.

He was excited about the taste of the famous cake.

  • Bet ieraugot kūku, viņš nevarēja noturēt smieklu brāzmu.

But when he saw the cake, he couldn't hold back a burst of laughter.

  • Anna bija sajaukusi sastāvdaļas.

Anna had mixed up the ingredients.

  • "Tas ir... interesants eksperiments," Maigi teica Eduards, aizturēdams vēl vienu smieklus lēkmi.

"That's... an interesting experiment," Eduards said gently, holding back another burst of laughter.

  • Anna bija sajūsmā. "Ak, Eduard, es sajauku visu. Man bija jāpievērš lielāka uzmanība."

Anna was delighted. "Oh, Eduard, I messed everything up. I should have paid more attention."

  • Bet Eduards viņu mierināja. "Nav slikts mēģinājums, bet varbūt nākamreiz seko receptei," viņš teica, vēl joprojām smaidot.

But Eduards comforted her. "Not a bad attempt, but maybe next time follow the recipe," he said, still smiling.

  • Anna sāka smieties līdzi.

    Anna started laughing too.

  • Viņa saprata, ka neveiksmes pārvēršas atmiņās, kas savieno draugus.

She realized that mishaps turn into memories that connect friends.

  • Viņi izlecās ārā iekost jaunajā, zaļjumam bagātajā Latvijas "kūkā".

They went outside and took a bite of the new, green-filled Latvian "cake."

  • Nākamajā dienā Anna atkal devās uz tirgu, lai iegādātos īstās sastāvdaļas, šoreiz uzmanīgāk.

The next day, Anna went to the market again to buy the right ingredients, this time more carefully.

  • Un, lai gan tā nebija vecmāmiņas slavenā kūka, viņas un Eduarda kopā pavadītais laiks bija salds, kā pati labākā deserta garša.

And although it wasn't her grandmother's famous cake, the time spent with Eduard was sweet, like the best dessert.
