Lost & Found: A Day's Twist in Old Riga
Reiz senai, senai Rīgas Vecpilsētas sirdī bija skaista vasaras diena.
They were not lost; in the heart of Old Riga, there was a beautiful summer day.
The sun was dancing on the old cobblestones and reflecting the joy of life on the walls of the houses.
The narrow streets of the Old Town were filled with the hustle and bustle of people and the chatter of tourists.
But in this bustle, two friends – Emils and Ansis – had gone missing.
"Mēs esam apmaldījušies," teica Emils, skatoties apkārt pa šaurajām ielām.
"We're lost," said Emils, looking around the narrow streets.
Ansis piekrita, bet viņš bija optimistiskāks.
Ansis agreed, but he was more optimistic.
"Mēs atradīsim ceļu ārā," viņš mierīgi teica.
"We will find our way out," he said calmly.
Abi draugi bija devušies iepazīt Vecpilsētas šaurās ielas, bet tagad viņi sāka saprast, ka nav nemaz tik viegli orientēties šajā labirintā.
The two friends had set out to explore the narrow streets of the Old Town, but now they began to realize that it was not as easy to navigate this labyrinth as they had thought.
Emils izvilka savu telefonu un aizrakstīja savai draudzenei Līgai.
Emils pulled out his phone and messaged his girlfriend Līga.
Līga, who had been living in Riga for years, was like a walking encyclopedia of the city.
Līga, saņemot īsziņu, uzreiz saprata, ka draugi ir nepatikšanās.
Upon receiving the message, Līga immediately understood that her friends were in trouble.
She sent a reply with instructions on how to get out of the Old Town.
"Ejiet uz zvanu torni un tad pa kreisi," teica Līgas ziņa.
"Go to the clock tower and then turn left," said Līga's message.
Emils and Ansis found the clock tower, but then realized that there was more than one way leading to the left.
They chose a street, but after a few minutes, they realized that they had strayed even further.
Ieliņas kļuva vēl šaurākas un vēl klusākas.
The streets became even narrower and quieter.
"Varbūt mums vajadzētu atkal zvanīt Līgai," ieteica Ansis, raudzīdamies apjukuši.
"Maybe we should call Līga again," suggested Ansis, looking puzzled.
"Labāk būs viņu saukt klātienē," Emils teica, un abiem draugiem tas likās labāka doma.
"It would be better to call her here," Emils said, and both friends thought it was a better idea.
Līga had been thinking ahead and was already on her way to find them.
She walked through the streets and alleys, which she knew like the back of her hand, until she finally spotted Emils and Ansis, looking a bit weary.
Līga smējās, sasniedzot viņus.
Laughing, Līga reached them.
"Jūs esat paņēmuši kreisi pie Jāņa baznīcas, nevis pie Doma baznīcas!
"You've turned left at St. John's Church, not at the Dome Cathedral!"
" Viņa jautri teica.
She said jokingly.
"Paldies, ka nāci mūs glābt," Emils teica.
"Thank you for coming to save us," Emils said.
Neviens vairs nebija saguris, jo Līgas pozitīvā enerģija bija uzmundrinoša.
No one was tired anymore, as Līga's positive energy was uplifting.
Viņi trīs kopā devās gar Rīgas Vecpilsētas krāšņajiem namiem, apstājās pie izcilajiem restorāniem un beigās atrada ceļu uz upes malu, no kurienes paveras skats uz brīnišķīgo Daugavu.
The three of them walked along the splendid buildings of the Old Town, stopped at excellent restaurants, and finally found their way to the riverbank, where they had a view of the wonderful Daugava River.
Emils and Ansis, as tourists, were delighted with this city and its secrets, but they were happy to have Līga, who knew the ins and outs of the Old Town.
Un tā, kādā vasaras dienā, mīklainajās Vecpilsētas ieliņās, trīs draugi atklāja Rīgas burvību un vienlaikus stiprināja savas draudzības saites, kas viņus vienoja vēl ciešāk nekā jebkurš labirints to spēja izdarīt.
And so, on a summer day, in the maze of the Old Town, three friends discovered the charm of Riga and, at the same time, strengthened their bonds of friendship even tighter than any maze could.
