Vasaras saule dedzīgi lēja gaismu pār Ziemassvētku kalnu.
The summer sun fervently poured light over Ziemassvētku Mountain.
Kalns bija pārpildīts ar tūkstošiem krustu.
The mountain was filled with thousands of crosses.
Katrais bija savāds un īpašs.
Each one was peculiar and special.
Vilnis, a slightly eccentric craftsman, looked at the mountain with hope and concern.
Viņš turēja savu paštaisītu, nedaudz gabalu šķībo krustu.
He held his self-made, somewhat crooked cross.
Blakus stāvēja viņa māsa Ilze un draugs Artis.
Next to him stood his sister Ilze and friend Artis.
Viņi abi bija noskaņoti palīdzēt, lai gan cik iespējams būtu iespējams.
Both were ready to help, as much as possible.
Ilze lika roku uz Vilņa pleca.
Ilze placed a hand on Vilnis's shoulder.
"Ej nu," viņa smaidot teica, "mēs atradīsim vietu tavai krustam.
"Go on," she said with a smile, "we'll find a spot for your cross."
" Artis pasmīnēja.
Artis smirked.
"Ja tas līdz šim nenokrīt," viņš piebilda ar jokainu toni.
"If it doesn't fall over by then," he added in a joking tone.
Kalnam bija īpaša aura.
The mountain had a special aura.
Tur valdīja klusums, tikai putnu dziesmas un vēja šalkoņa pārtrauca jelkādus citus skaņas.
Silence prevailed there, only the songs of birds and the rustling of the wind interrupted any other sounds.
Vilnis rūpīgi lūkojās apkārt, meklējot piemērotu vietu.
Vilnis carefully looked around, searching for a suitable spot.
Taču visi tuvāko krustu laukumi bija jau aizņemti.
But all the nearby cross spaces were already taken.
"Varbūt tur?
"Maybe there?"
" Viļņa pirksts norādīja uz nedaudz stāvāku zemes gabalu.
Vilnis's finger pointed to a slightly steeper patch of ground.
Ilze un Artis sekoja viņa skatienam.
Ilze and Artis followed his gaze.
"Izskatās labi," teica Ilze, ņemot krusta otru galu.
"Looks good," said Ilze, taking the other end of the cross.
When they reached the chosen spot, Vilnis and Artis tried to steady the cross.
Tas vēlējās atgāzties un nespēja noturēties taisni.
It wanted to lean back and couldn't stay upright.
As they continued their work in the heat and difficulties, they got along and laughed about how it almost fell over repeatedly.
Suddenly, as if appearing out of nowhere, a sheep appeared on the scene.
Tā smaržoja Ilzes puķu vainagu, kuru viņa iepina ap krustu.
It was sniffing Ilze's flower wreath, which she had woven around the cross.
"Nē, aitiņa!
"No, little sheep!"
" kliedza Ilze, bet aita, šķiet, netika saprasta.
cried Ilze, but the sheep seemed not to understand.
Notika komiska cīņa.
A comical struggle ensued.
Ilze was pulling the cross one way, while the sheep, with its big inquisitive nose, pulled in the other.
Artis pieleca pie glābšanas.
Artis jumped in to help.
"Pārcīnīsimies šoreiz," viņš jokoja starp haha un nopūtu.
"We'll win this fight," he joked between laughs and sighs.
Visbeidzot, viņi uzvarēja.
Finally, they won.
Krusts stāvēja nostiprināts, nedaudz šķībi ar nevienmērīgi sakārtoto vainagu augšpusē.
The cross stood secured, slightly crooked with an unevenly arranged wreath on top.
Vilnis raudzījās tajā lepns.
Vilnis looked at it proudly.
"Tā nu gan," sacīja viņš, "kopā paveicām labu darbu.
"Indeed," he said, "together, we did a good job."
"Ilze un Artis novilka svītras svārkus, pasmīnēja viens otram un teica: "Labais darbs, Vilni.
Ilze and Artis wiped their foreheads, grinned at each other and said, "Good job, Vilnis."
" Rožu smarža ar iespēju uz desertu cekularā.
A scent of roses with a possibility of dessert lingered in the air.
Jāņi called them to live a new adventure, but this cross would stand forever as a reminder of their joint efforts.
