On a cold winter morning in Oslo, Lars woke up to the sound of the neighbor's screams.

He looked out the window and couldn't believe what he saw.

  • "Ingrid, kom!

    "Ingrid, come!"

  • ", ropte han.

    he shouted.

  • "Det er et reinsdyr på gata!

"There's a reindeer in the street!"

Ingrid, his little sister, ran to the window and saw the reindeer.

  • Hennes øyne strålte.

    Her eyes sparkled.

  • Et ekte reinsdyr!

    A real reindeer!

  • Men litt redsel sivet inn.

But a little fear crept in.

  • Hva om det ble skadet?

    What if it got hurt?

  • Ville ikke det være fælt?

    Wouldn't that be awful?

Like a breath from Northern Norway, our adventure began.

Lars and Ingrid had never seen a reindeer in Oslo before.

  • Gi et navn til reinsdyret, foreslo Ingrid.

Give the reindeer a name, suggested Ingrid.

  • "Olav", sa Lars.

    "Olav," said Lars.

  • Det hørtes sterkt ut.

    It sounded strong.

  • Nå var det tid for å tenke.

Now it was time to think.

  • "Vi må fange Olav, men nøye oss", sa Lars rolig.

"We have to catch Olav, but be careful," Lars said calmly.

  • Ingrid nikket, hun var klar for jobben.

Ingrid nodded, she was ready for the task.

They ran out, bundled up in winter scarves and gloves.

  • Lars ledet, Ingrid fulgte tett etter.

Lars led, Ingrid followed closely behind.

They found Olav near Holmenkollen, scared and confused.

Lars held up a carrot, hoping it would attract Olav.

  • I stedet løp Olav vekk.

    Instead, Olav ran away.

  • Ingrid ble redd.

    Ingrid became scared.

  • Men Lars sa, "Ikke bekymre deg, vi får ham.

But Lars said, "Don't worry, we'll get him."

  • "Gjennom dagen, gjennom gatene i Oslo, jaktet barna Olav.

Throughout the day, through the streets of Oslo, the children hunted for Olav.

  • Men han forble alltid litt foran dem.

But he always remained just ahead of them.

From Frogner Park to the Oslo Fjord, it didn't get any easier.

Finally, when the sun was almost gone, they found Olav at Aker Brygge.

  • Med forsiktige skritt, nærmet de seg dyret.

With cautious steps, they approached the animal.

  • "Vi er venner, Olav", sa Lars rolig.

"We are friends, Olav," Lars said calmly.

The reindeer stopped, turned around, and to their astonishment, it came towards Lars.

It took the carrot, and then it started to calm down.

  • "Hva nå?

    "What now?"

  • " spurte Ingrid, da de stod med Olav.

Ingrid asked, as they stood with Olav.

"We have to get him home, to Northern Norway," Lars replied.

  • Ingen visste hvordan, men de ville prøve.

Nobody knew how, but they would try.

Olav would get help, and the children were willing to help.

They would show everyone that two kids from the city could save a friend.

And thus, from this winter morning in Oslo, their great adventure began.

  • Ingen visste utfallet, men de var klare.

Nobody knew the outcome, but they were ready.

  • Et reinsdyr i Oslo?

    A reindeer in Oslo?

  • Uvanlig, ja.

    Unusual, yes.

  • Men for to barn som elsket eventyr, var det bare begynnelsen.

But for two children who loved adventure, it was only the beginning.
