  • Natten var mørk, og stjernene skinte over Geirangerfjorden.

The night was dark, and the stars shone over the Geirangerfjord.

Lars sat on the dock and looked out over the water.

  • Han likte den stille natten.

    He liked the quiet night.

  • Plutselig så han noe uvanlig.

    Suddenly, he saw something unusual.

  • Midt i fjorden lå en båt.

In the middle of the fjord was a boat.

  • En mystisk båt.

    A mysterious boat.

  • Lars reiste seg og gned øynene.

Lars stood up and rubbed his eyes.

  • Båten var der fortsatt.

    The boat was still there.

  • Men det var ingen lys.

    But there were no lights.

  • Ingen mennesker.

    No people.

  • Bare en mørk, rolig båt.

    Just a dark, calm boat.

  • Lars syntes det var rart.

    Lars found it strange.

  • Hvor kom båten fra?

Where did the boat come from?

  • Og hvorfor var den der alene?

And why was it there alone?

  • Lars bestemte seg for å gå nærmere.

    Lars decided to get closer.

He found a small rowboat and set out towards the mysterious boat.

  • Vannet var rolig, men hjertet hans slo fort.

The water was calm, but his heart was pounding.

  • Han visste ikke hva han ville finne.

He didn't know what he would find.

  • Da han nærmet seg båten, ropte han.

As he approached the boat, he called out.

  • "Hallo?

    "Hello?

  • Er det noen her?"

    Is anyone here?"

  • Ingen svarte.

    No one answered.

  • Båten var stille.

    The boat was silent.

  • Lars klatret forsiktig ombord.

    Lars carefully climbed aboard.

  • Han så seg rundt.

    He looked around.

  • På dekk var det ingen.

There was no one on deck.

  • Båten var tom.

    The boat was empty.

  • Inne i kabinen fant han en bok.

Inside the cabin, he found a book.

  • Den så gammel ut.

    It looked old.

  • Lars åpnet den og leste forsiktig.

Lars opened it and read carefully.

  • Det var en dagbok.

    It was a diary.

  • En dagbok fra en sjøfarer.

    A diary from a seafarer.

The last page said, "We are heading towards Geiranger.

  • Noe føles galt."

    Something feels wrong."

  • Plutselig hørte Lars en lyd.

    Suddenly, Lars heard a noise.

  • Han snudde seg raskt.

    He turned around quickly.

  • En skygge beveget seg på dekk.

    A shadow moved on deck.

  • Lars gikk sakte tilbake.

    Lars slowly backed away.

  • Skyggen viste seg å være en mann.

The shadow turned out to be a man.

  • En gammel mann.

    An old man.

  • "Jeg heter Lars," sa Lars.

"My name is Lars," said Lars.

  • "Hvem er du?"

    "Who are you?"

  • Mannen så på han med triste øyne.

The man looked at him with sad eyes.

  • "Jeg er Olav," sa han.

    "I am Olav," he said.

  • "Denne båten er min.

    "This boat is mine.

  • Jeg mistet familien min i en storm her for mange år siden."

I lost my family in a storm here many years ago."

  • Lars forstod nå.

    Lars now understood.

  • Båten var ikke mystisk, men trist.

The boat wasn't mysterious, but sad.

Olav often sailed alone, remembering his family.

  • Lars og Olav satt lenge og snakket.

Lars and Olav sat and talked for a long time.

  • Dagen begynte å bli lysere, og stjernene forsvant.

The day began to brighten, and the stars disappeared.

  • Til slutt sa Olav, "Takk, Lars.

Finally, Olav said, "Thank you, Lars.

  • Det er godt å snakke med noen."

It’s good to talk to someone."

Lars smiled and replied, "You are not alone, Olav."

  • De to mennene seilte tilbake til brygga.

The two men sailed back to the dock together.

  • Olav bestemte seg for å bli i Geiranger.

Olav decided to stay in Geiranger.

  • Lars og Olav ble gode venner.

Lars and Olav became good friends.

Together they showed that memories can hurt, but you don't have to be alone.

And so, in the middle of the Geirangerfjord, the night ended with two new friends, and a mysterious boat that brought meaning to life again.
