Magical Midsummer: Friendship and Festivities in Bergen's Glow
Solen skinte klart over Bergen.
The sun shone brightly over Bergen.
Streets and squares were full of people looking forward to the Midsummer festival.
Ingrid gledet seg også.
Ingrid was excited too.
She had invited her friends, Lars and Maja, to a special gathering.
Ingrid bodde i et lite hus nær Bryggen.
Ingrid lived in a small house near Bryggen.
Huset var pyntet med blomster og lys.
The house was decorated with flowers and lights.
Inside, the table was set with food.
Det var lefser, laks, og jordbær.
There were lefser, salmon, and strawberries.
On the table also stood a large pitcher of juice.
Klokken nærmet seg seks.
The clock was approaching six.
Ingrid hørte bank på døren.
Ingrid heard a knock on the door.
She opened it and saw Lars and Maja smiling broadly.
"Velkommen," sa Ingrid og klemte dem begge.
"Welcome," said Ingrid, hugging them both.
They sat around the table and began to eat.
Lars told a funny story from his vacation.
Maja lo så hun nesten mistet pusten.
Maja laughed so hard she almost lost her breath.
Ingrid følte seg glad.
Ingrid felt happy.
Vennene hennes var de beste i verden.
Her friends were the best in the world.
Outside the window, they heard children playing and adults singing.
Hele byen var i feststemning.
The whole city was in a festive mood.
Lars foreslo at de skulle gå ut.
Lars suggested they go out.
"Det er en stor bål på festplassen," sa han.
"There's a big bonfire at the festival ground," he said.
"La oss gå dit."
"Let's go there."
They went out and followed the sounds of music and laughter.
Plassen ved Festplassen var full av folk.
The plaza by Festplassen was crowded with people.
Et stort bål brant midt på plassen.
A large bonfire burned in the middle of the plaza.
Rundt bålet danset folk i ring.
Around the fire, people danced in a circle.
Noen spilte trekkspill, andre sang gamle sanger.
Some played the accordion, others sang old songs.
Ingrid, Lars, og Maja tok hverandre i hendene og gikk inn i ringen.
Ingrid, Lars, and Maja took each other’s hands and joined the circle.
De danset og lo.
They danced and laughed.
Gleden fylte hjertene deres.
Joy filled their hearts.
I lyset fra bålet føltes alt magisk.
In the light of the bonfire, everything felt magical.
Later that evening, they sat on a bench by the water.
De så utover fjorden.
They looked out over the fjord.
"Dette er den beste midtsommeren noensinne," sa Maja med et smil.
"This is the best midsummer ever," said Maja with a smile.
Ingrid og Lars nikket enige.
Ingrid and Lars nodded in agreement.
Ingrid følte seg takknemlig.
Ingrid felt grateful.
Life was good, and the friendship with Lars and Maja made it even better.
Under the stars in the clear night, they promised to meet here again next Midsummer.
And so they sat there, three friends, on a magical night in Bergen, with memories that would last forever.
The story didn't end; it just began anew, year after year.
