Spring had just arrived in Oslo, and the trees outside the student dorm were starting to dress in fresh, green leaves.
Sigrid sat at the desk in the room she shared with Leif and stared at her books.
She was a dedicated student, but recently something had changed.
Hun hadde fått vite at hun hadde en kronisk helseutfordring, noe som gjorde studiene hennes tyngre enn før.
She had found out she had a chronic health challenge, which made her studies more difficult than before.
Leif, hennes romkamerat, la merke til at Sigrid strevde.
Leif, her roommate, noticed that Sigrid was struggling.
He wanted to help her but didn't know how without infringing on her independence.
Leif was afraid that he might lose their friendship if he was too intrusive.
"Vil du ta en pause og gå en tur?
"Do you want to take a break and go for a walk?"
" spurte Leif forsiktig.
Leif asked carefully.
It was Easter Sunday, and the sun was shining through the large windows in the common room.
Sigrid ristet på hodet, fokusert på notatene sine.
Sigrid shook her head, focused on her notes.
"Jeg må studere," sa hun.
"I have to study," she said.
"Eksamen er i morgen.
"The exam is tomorrow."
Leif went over to her and looked at Sigrid with a worried expression.
"Men du bør kanskje hvile litt også?
"But maybe you should rest a little too?
Det er viktig.
It's important."
"Sigrid sukket, men smilte til ham.
Sigrid sighed but smiled at him.
"Jeg vil klare meg fint, Leif.
"I'll be fine, Leif.
Jeg må bare jobbe litt til.
I just need to work a bit more."
"Dagen gikk, og kvelden falt på.
The day passed, and evening came.
Outside, one could hear the sound of birds chirping, and Sigrid felt the weight of stress increasing.
At night, while Leif slept, she suddenly collapsed from exhaustion.
Leif woke up at a thud and rushed over to her.
"Sigrid!
"Sigrid!
Er du OK?
Are you OK?"
"Sigrid prøvde å smile, men hun visste at hun hadde presset seg for hardt.
Sigrid tried to smile, but she knew she had pushed herself too hard.
"I'm just a bit tired," she admitted weakly.
Leif took her hand and looked her in the eyes.
"Du må ta vare på deg selv.
"You need to take care of yourself.
Please, you can't skip doctor's appointments to study."
"Tårene begynte å fylles i Sigrids øyne.
Tears began to fill Sigrid's eyes.
Hun visste at Leif hadde rett.
She knew that Leif was right.
It was time to step back, to find a balance between her studies and health.
"I will talk to my professor and get an extension on the exam," she finally said.
Leif smilte, lettet.
Leif smiled, relieved.
"Det er en god idé.
"That's a good idea.
I'm here to help you, remember that."
The next few days, Sigrid started to work on balancing her life better.
She learned how to ask for help without losing her independence, and Leif learned to support without overstepping.
A week later, when the trees were in full bloom, Sigrid and Leif went for a walk in the park.
For the first time in a long while, Sigrid felt at peace with herself and her situation.
She now knew that it was okay to take a break, to accept help, and that strength could also be admitting one's limits.
Springtime Oslo was beautiful, and the future seemed a little brighter—together they could face challenges, supportive and egalitarian.
