  • Pokljuka je bila čudovita tisto pomladno jutro.

Pokljuka was beautiful on that spring morning.

The sun shyly peeked out from behind clouds that occasionally shed some remaining snow.

As soon as Matej and Nina arrived by bus from the city, they were enveloped by the lively atmosphere of the artisan market.

  • Vonj po sveže pečenem kruhu in dimljenih klobasah je vabil vsakogar.

The scent of freshly baked bread and smoked sausages tempted everyone.

Nina had her plan—to find the most beautiful ceramics, while Tina was excited about all the unique items she wanted to take back to the city.

Jurija.

Matej, however, had a very specific goal: to find something that would delight his grandmother for the celebration of St. George's Day.

  • Trg je brenčal od življenja.

    The market buzzed with life.

  • Pod visokimi smrekami so stale pisane stojnice, polne čipk, rezbarenja in keramike.

Under tall spruces stood colorful stalls full of lace, carvings, and ceramics.

  • Matej je neodločeno prebiral vso to lepoto.

Matej indecisively browsed through all this beauty.

Everything was wonderful, but nothing seemed special enough to him.

  • »Kaj če se razdelimo?« je predlagal Matej.

“What if we split up?” suggested Matej.

“We can meet back here in an hour by the bench.”

  • Tina in Nina sta se strinjali.

    Tina and Nina agreed.

  • Matej je začel pozorno raziskovati stojnice enega za drugim, a povsod so bile podobne stvari.

Matej started to carefully explore the stalls one by one, but everywhere he saw similar items.

  • Lepa keramika, prefinjene vezenine, a nič, kar bi ga navdušilo.

Beautiful ceramics, exquisite embroideries, but nothing that thrilled him.

  • Nato je naletel na stojnico, kjer so prodajali ročno izdelano čipko.

Then he came across a stall selling handmade lace.

  • Njegova babica je nekoč sama izdelovala čipke in Mateja je takoj prevzela nostalgija.

His grandmother used to make lace herself, and Matej was immediately filled with nostalgia.

Just as he wanted to buy one of the beautiful white laces, he heard someone else also wanted the same lace.

  • Matej se je za trenutek ustavil.

    Matej paused for a moment.

  • Razmišljal je.

    He thought.

Was it really important to get this exact lace, or might it be more meaningful and heartfelt to choose something else?

He decided that meaning and story were more important than exclusivity.

Matej walked on and soon found an old craftsman who promised to make a special lace by hand and explained to him the tradition and history behind it.

When the three of them gathered back at the bench later, Matej proudly showed what he had found.

“Besides the lace, I’ll tell my grandmother the story of how it was made,” said Matej.

  • Nina in Tina sta se mu nasmehnili.

Nina and Tina smiled at him.

They walked back through the market with a new perspective—everything was wonderful and even more beautiful because it had a story and community experience behind it.

  • Matej se je počutil srečnega.

    Matej felt happy.

He learned how to add value through stories and experiences, not just with exclusive lace.
