Throughout the winter, as the wind whistled eerily through the forested hills of Doi Suthep, Niwat and Chalita strolled toward the balcony of Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, a sacred and serene place.

Amidst the tranquility and cool atmosphere, they came here to pay respects to their ancestors and to remember their late grandmother.

Niwat knew that his sister often questioned the family traditions, but he hoped that under this sacred atmosphere, she might see the value in each step he brought her to.

"Today is an important day, Makha Bucha Day. Everyone gathers to show respect and devotion to the Buddha. It has deep meaning," Niwat continued.

เมื่อวันได้เริ่มเย็น มวลชนเริ่มรวมตัวกันในลานกว้างหน้าวัด

As the day began to cool, the crowd started assembling in the wide courtyard in front of the temple.

The ceremony began with a candlelit procession of monks who came to participate.

The chantings and incense filled the air, and Chalita felt the warm and welcoming atmosphere.

During the procession around the pagoda, she sensed the calming energy and the resolve of everyone walking together.

It was a feeling she had never experienced before; her thoughts began to transform.

After completing the candle processional and expressing their faith, Chalita turned to Niwat, "Brother, I’m beginning to understand why these things are important. I feel a connection I never knew before."

Niwat smiled, his heart filled with joy.

"That's what Yai used to tell us. We must not forget our roots and the beliefs that define who we are."

Chalita looked at the view of Chiang Mai, stretching out before them.

The two walked side by side back home, through the wintry wind still blowing from the mountaintop, with hearts fortified and a deeper understanding on this Makha Bucha Day.
